Biography

I grew up on the prairies and so I carry fond memories of both

Winnipeg and Saskatoon. While I've been fortunate to be able

to travel all over the world, my academic home is currently the

sociology department at Carleton University in the beautiful

national capital city of Ottawa. I did my undergraduate work

at Concordia University in Montreal.

My current research interests are actor-network theory,

governmentality, fear/risk discourses and MMOs

(particularly World of Warcraft).

Emerging interests are notions of embedded individuality versus

collectivism in MMO game design.

My MA thesis (in progress) is examining the associations between

gaming, leisure and governmentality.

When not studying or gaming, I cook a lot, hang out in coffeeshops,

read sci fi and fantasy, throw tennis balls for my dog and

chill out with friends and loved ones.
